How to download a betting app on your phone

Betting on an iOS or Android phone or tablet is one of the most convenient ways to bet on golf.

When you first sign up for an account at an online sportsbook, you should see a download option or link right on the sportsbook website. Select that, follow the prompts, and the device will automatically download onto your tablet or phone.

  • Once you have the app on your device, you’ll be able to either sign up for a new account or to log in with your existing information. If you haven’t yet registered for an account, the app will require personal information such as your name, address, phone number, email and Social Security number.
  • Now you’re ready to make your first deposit if you’re a new customer. If you’re an existing customer with money already in your account, you’re ready to start betting.
  • You’re now ready to bet on golf via the app. You’ll be able to place bets from anywhere within a state where your betting app is legal and licensed. Your device uses geolocation software to make sure you’re complying.

Another feature you’ll find on your sports betting app is live betting, which allows you to wager on golf tournaments as they are taking place. Make sure to find the sportsbook that best fits your needs if you’re interested in live betting.

Live golf odds

Online sportsbooks will offer competitive golf odds for all PGA Tour events as well as other options, depending on the book. Check the current odds on top golfers for major golf tourneys in the feed below.

How do golf betting odds work?

If you’re a golfer, you’ve probably made bets with your friends on who would win and if there would be a particular achievement while you’re out on the course. While that may sound similar to what you do when betting on golf at an online sportsbook, it’s quite different, as is the case whenever you are watching professionals compared to amateurs. Here are the common golf bets you’re likely to find:

  • To win: Also called “winner” or “tournament winner” depending on the sportsbook, you’re betting on which golfer is going to win the tournament outright.
  • Versus the field: This is the bet you’ll go with if you think anyone other than the selected golfer will win the tournament.
  • Head-to-head (matchups): You will have two golfers to choose from, and you can bet on which one you think will finish with the better score.
  • Group matchups: Similar to a head-to-head bet, but there are three or more golfers to choose from.
  • Each way: This bet has you choosing a golfer to either win or finish in one of the top spots of the tournament. This is usually in the top five or the top eight, depending on the bet.
  • First-round leader: Choose the golfer who will be leading after the conclusion of the first round of the tournament. Your pick doesn’t have to do anything other than be in the lead when that round comes to a close.
  • Top five, 10, 20: Bet on a golfer to finish in one of the top spots. The fewer spots, the better the return on your wager.
  • Nationality: Options include such bets as the top European golfer, top Asian golfer or top American golfer in a tournament.
  • Prop bets: These are situational bets, such as if there will be a hole-in-one or a playoff to determine the winner.

Live golf betting

Live betting allows you to wager on a golf tournament while it is taking place. The majority of the wagers are going to involve prop bets, though there is some variation in that.

Participating in live golf betting generally requires a sportsbook app to allow you to wager with the shifting odds that occur throughout the event.

The action is fast, typically, and can create a level of engagement between bettor and sport that hasn’t previously been the case. You can stay up on the action using a betting app on your phone or your tablet, or you can use the online sportsbook website.

Odds for golf majors

While golf gets plenty of attention throughout the year at sportsbooks, times when it sees the most interest are for the four PGA majors.

Masters betting odds

The Masters takes place at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. Golfers who do well in this tournament tend to be strong in all facets of their game, though the most talented putters often end up cutting strokes when it is the most crucial.

You’ll find all of the typical bets available to you at online sportsbooks, but the Masters also has a specific prop bet for Amen Corner, which consists of the 11th, 12th and 13th holes at Augusta.

US Open betting odds

Come June, the US Open takes center stage. This is typically an event that gives an advantage to golfers with strong driving skills and those with pinpoint accuracy. You’ll find bets like the winner, top-10 finish, matchups and plenty of props.

British Open (Open Championship) odds

The British Open, which also goes by The Open Championship, has the distinction of being the oldest organized golf tournament in the world that is still being played today.

This event is different from the others due to the fact that the weather can be unpredictable and the courses are of the links variety. It makes sense that those golfers who have spent more time on links courses are usually the ones to finish near the top, which means you’ll normally see a European golfer finishing in the top spot.

PGA Championship betting odds

The courses for the PGA Championship often reward those who wield power and driving distance as their main skill set.

Can I bet on LIV Golf in Texas?

While LIV Golf is getting plenty of attention from the media, it hasn’t been able to get a foothold in American sportsbooks for some very specific reasons. The writers at The Lines have dug into that situation, and their article on betting on LIV golf is very informative.

LIV Golf is different from the PGA Tour in multiple ways, including the fact that there are shotgun starts in which all players tee off at the same time at the various holes throughout the course. There’s a four-man team element to LIV as well, and there are only three rounds of tournament play for each event.

The TGL virtual golf league

Just when you thought video games couldn’t get more intense, the TGL virtual golf league comes along. TGL features a virtual competition between six three-player teams in 15 regular-season matches and playoffs starting in January 2024.

The league, which is a product of the startup TMRW by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is partnered with the PGA Tour and will take place during primetime on Monday nights.

Are there any PGA events in Texas?

Texas hasn’t been the home to any majors for quite some time, thanks to the sweltering heat during the PGA Tour’s busiest time of the year. In fact, the last time a major took place in the Lone Star State was in 1969, when the US Open was at the Champions Club. Orville Moody ended up winning.

That, however, could be about to change.

The PGA has announced that it is moving its headquarters from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to Frisco, Texas, in the suburbs of Dallas. Speculation is that this will open the door for a major to take place in the state in the near future.

Here are some other PGA events that take place in Texas:

  • Cadence Bank Houston Open (Houston)
  • World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play (Austin)
  • Valero Texas Open (San Antonio)
  • AT&T Byron Nelson (McKinney)
  • Charles Schwab Challenge (Fort Worth)
